July 30: Last Saturday night was truly a great night on our corner of Beale.
Omar & The Howlers in Rum Boogie and junkyardmen in Blues Hall, keeping both rooms packed all night long. junkyardmen hung in like the blues troopers they are, delivering the hard-driving blues they are notorious for, Sunday & Monday nights as well. I must admit we all looked wiped by the wee hours Tuesday morning, and as I left the building, poor John was sitting at one of the front tables having a smoke and gazing quite woefully at his drum kit...
Which reminds me! A belated but very Happy Birthday! to our dear friend Sal from over at Hard Rock Cafe Memphis!!! So sorry I missed "Sal's Birthday Bash & All Night Long Jam" over at The Map Room! :o No doubt in my mind that it was a stellar event.
This coming Saturday night, July 31st, is one many of us have been anxiously awaiting... junkyardmen's release party for their latest CD, "keep on workin'". Most of us at Rum Boogie and Blues Hall shall be bouncing back'n'forth on our breaks... I am so proud of all the 'powers that be' on our corner, for being so supportive of this band and their huge event taking place at The New Daisy down Beale Street from us... on a Saturday night no less. This is also a big Summer Concert Event for Budweiser, who has been at every single junkyardmen show in our venues and shown what truly proud sponsors they are of this great band. Y'all come on down to Beale and party with us Saturday July 31st!!! James Govan & The Boogie Blues Band in Rum Boogie, delivering the authentic STAX / Memphis Music they are famous for. And the great harmonica blues legend Mojo Buford & his Blues Band in Blues Hall... real Blues in a real Beale Street Juke Joint.
If you love the blues like we do... we gonna be in Blues Heaven on Beale Street, July 31st :)
July 19: The last few nights with junkyardmen has been alot of fun. The fact that their CD Release Party is Saturday July 31st at The New Daisy (also on Beale), and Budweiser has been with them all weekend with some great free tickets, CD drawings and cheap longnecks (bud types, of course)... has added a good bit more excitement to an already exciting band. Goodtimes indeed!
Been constructing a good bit here... added 2 webrings, for your surfing pleasure. The Blues Gallery has a page 2 now! And more shall follow very soon ;) Several great new links on the links page, go visit! BealeCam has their live cam aimed right at Blues Hall :o
July 15: Yay! I got the club calenders set up! Doesn't take much to make my day, eh? ;) Please note I've got junkyardmen my next 8 working days... well I'm impressed, and pleased as punch. For those that wouldn't know such a thing, my next 8 working days covers the next 2 weeks. Can you tell it's late and i'm feeling silly? Think I'll go bug some critters and folks in GemStone. If you don't know what GemStone is you didn't click on the little Keep thingy on my links page, did ya?!
Later on July 13: Well finally got back in to finish today's update. My wonderful site server Fortune City has been completely remodeled and it appears there's a considerable 'punch list' for the weary designers. They are working around the clock, obviously... or at least around the world ;) Personally, I am quite pleased and giving them a big round of applause...
ok now where was I?!... ahh yes, Mojo Buford & The Blues Healers are in the gallery now. Mojo said he's getting some more copies of his CD's for the band and I'll see if I can't get us a sampling of this legendary blues harpist, in the near future.
Was thrilled to find Jim Suhler & Monkey Beat online, to share with y'all here on my site... I truly enjoyed them in Blues Hall, and tho tired it was great to get to do thier sound in Rum Boogie for the late set in there Sat. nite. Mr. Handy's Blues Hall is a real juke joint, and sound equipped accordingly ;) But hey!... a band like this makes even Blues Hall sound great! They have a cool home page, of course. Check out the link below... Sure hope to see these guys IRL again real soon, too :)
July 13: Added a couple of photos to The Blues Gallery. Mojo Buford and The Blues Healers. Spent the last 2 nights with them in Rum Boogie. Had a great power blues trio in Blues Hall, Fri. and Sat. nights! Sure wish I'd gotten some shots, and they didn't have CDs for sale either... Anyways if you get the chance to see them Do It! We had them booked as Jim Suhler, but Jim said they were "Monkey Beat"... very unique, but definitely the blues! hehe... ahh the wonder of the internet... The Official Monkey Beat Home Page ;)
June 22: Just a quick note... I'm back to the drawing board on my site design because it wasn't viewable with Netscape. Everyone should be able to view this page, now! Added a few new photos to the gallery. Go peek at Kirk ;)
June 19: I've had the extreme pleasure of working with The Kirk Smithhart Band the last couple of weeks in a row. They played their hearts out in both Rum Boogie and Blues Hall. Kirk is a stunning guitar player, a joy to be on the other end of his vocal mic vocalist and wonderful songwriter. He penned every song and played every soulful and searing guitar lick on this CD!. Pete Mendillo is energy personified on some drums! And the drum solo he performed Sunday night in Rum Boogie was without a doubt the cutest I have ever seen. Zack "from Strings and Things" :0 on bass a few of the nights. Keepin it real solid and full of fun. Dave Smith took over as bassman Monday night delivering his consistently great tone and awesome groove.
